Before explaining the hadith, let's examine the sentence : "... and *As-Sirat(a bridge)* will be laid *across* Hell and *I (Muhammad) shall be the first* amongst the Apostles to cross it *with my followers*... "
The word across means over, or to say it is wider in length than the object of comparison. A bridge is a path over an area.
Hell will be between the point of judgement and paradise, and As-Sirat is the bridge to cross to paradise.
Our Noble Prophet Muhammad, Sola llahu alaehi WA salam, and we, his Ummah, will be the first to cross over the bridge and enter paradise first.
When you open your mouth, you expose yourself, because people may know you are not wise.
Next time, you should simply quote the hadith, and ask for detailed explanation.
