EPISODE 3️⃣: Reciting Sūrah Al-Fātihah Behind the Imām in Prayer: Sālih Al-Fawzān and Al-Albānee

إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا وَإِذَا قَرَأَ فَأَنْصِتُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ {غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ الضَّالِّينَ} فَقُولُوا آمِينَ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ . فَقُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ فَاسْجُدُوا وَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا أَجْمَعِينَ
Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that Allaah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: *_“The Imām has been appointed to be followed, so when he says Allaahu Akbar, say Allaahu Akbar, when he recites, listen silently. When he says: غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ الضَّالِّين ‘Not the way of those who earned Your anger, nor of those who went astray’, then say Āmeen. When he bows, you bow. When he says, سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ‘Allaah hears those who praise Him’, say, اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ ‘O Allaah, our Lord, to You is the praise’. When he prostrates with the sajdah, prostrate. And if he prays sitting, all of you pray sitting [with him].”_*

عَنِ ابْنِ أُكَيْمَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ بِأَصْحَابِهِ صَلاَةً نَظُنُّ أَنَّهَا الصُّبْحُ فَقَالَ ” هَلْ قَرَأَ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ ” . قَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا . قَالَ ” إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ
Ibn Ukaimah said: *_“I heard Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) say: ‘The Prophet (ﷺ) led his Companions in a prayer; we think it was Fajr. The Messenger said: “Did anyone among you recite?” A man said: “I did.” So the Messenger said: “I was saying to myself: what is wrong that someone is pulling away the Qur’ān from me?”_*

عَنِ ابْنِ أُكَيْمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ وَزَادَ فِيهِ قَالَ فَسَكَتُوا بَعْدُ فِيمَا جَهَرَ فِيهِ الإِمَامُ
And Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) mentioned a similar report, and added to it: *_“And after that they were quiet in the prayers in which the Imām recites aloud.”_*

عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ “ مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ إِمَامٌ فَإِنَّ قِرَاءَةَ الإِمَامِ لَهُ قِرَاءَةٌ
Jābir (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Messenger (ﷺ) said: *_“Whoever has an Imām [leading him in prayer] then the recitation of the Imām is his recitation [also].”_*
