Hudhayfah ibn Al-Yamān رضي الله عنه said:
“Whoever wants to know from amongst you, was he struck by the fitnah or not? Then let him observe:
If he sees hārām what he would see [before] as halāl, or he sees halāl what he would see [before] as harām, then know it has certainly struck him!”
[Al-Musannaf Li Ibn Abī Shaybah: 7/474]
And the intent behind this change in opinion is not due to evidence or following the truth, rather it’s due to following desires and being enslaved by the dunyā and its people.
This is the misguidance that Hudhayfah رضي الله عنه was referring to when he said:
“True misguidance is that you approve now what you used to rebuke before, and rebuke now what you used to approve before; and be cautious of changing colours in the religion, for the religion of Allāh is one!”
And changing colours in the religion is not a trait from Ahlus-Sunnah, rather it’s a trait of the People of Innovation!
Our Shaykh Muqbil رحمه الله would say:
“Changing colours [in the religion] is not a trait of Ahlus Sunnah!”
