*SOCIAL STIGMA AGAINST VIRGINITY*
.
Few days ago, I was discussing about human virginity with my colleagues. We all belonged to Medical backgrounds.

One of very educated person among us said that the only way to know if a girl is virgin is, she must bleed during her first intercourse.
After this, I came to know that this is mindset of many people but it is totally wrong.

Bleeding doesn't determine if a girl is virgin or not. So I decided to write an article to help and educate our people on this issue.
This is very common myth that if a girl doesn’t bleed during intercourse on her first night, it means that she is not virgin and this is not her first intercourse. There is no truth in this. Not all women bleed the first time they have intercourse, as I am going to explain in this post.
To understand that why do some women bleed and some don't, we need to know about hymen. Hymen is a membrane that covers a part of the vaginal opening in some women. It does not block or cover the entire vagina in all women as some people mistakenly think.
Not all women have hymen.

The hymen also differs from woman to woman. Like all women have different heights, weights and features, all women also have different amounts and types of hymen. Some women have thick hymen, some have thin hymen. Some women have large hymen, some have small hymen that covers a small portion of their vaginal opening.
And some women don’t have hymen at all.

In addition to this, in some women, the hymen wears away as they grow up, either on its own or by exercise, bicycling, horseback riding, using tampons during menstruation or even during dancing, especially if it is small or thin.
If a woman is born without hymen, she won't bleed the first time she has intercourse. If a woman has a small or thin hymen, she might not bleed the first time she has intercourse. If a woman's hymen has worn away on its own9 (which is very common as girls grow up), she won't bleed the first time she has intercourse.
Most often, women who bleed tend to be those who are dealt roughly during intercourse. If the guy forces himself inside the girl, when she isn't ready, relaxed or aroused enough, he is likely to cause injury or bleeding. Because most people think that it is normal for women to bleed the first time they have intercourse, they don't realize that this bleeding is the result of woman being hurt, and not the hymen being broken. Painful first time intercourse is generally because the woman is not relaxed or aroused enough, and gets hurt as a result. It is rarely ever because of hymen breaking. The bottom line is that, there is no way to assess female virginity.
Bleeding does not have anything to do with virginity.

It has to do with the kind of hymen a girl has, and hymen differs from girl to girl from birth. The result is that, only a small percentage of women bleed the first time they have intercourse. According to a study published in British Medical Journal, only 37% woman bleed during first time intercourse and these 37% woman include those who have thick, large hymen which didn’t wear off in their previous life.

Why is this important to be aware of? Because women all over the get abused, injured and even killed due to this myth of “virginity bleeding”. Many people (men as well as women) think that bleeding is a sign of virginity. Women who don't bleed the first time have been divorced, suffered from suspicion leading to domestic violence and abuse, and even killed for honour.
It is necessary to educate people that a girl does not necessarily have to bleed the first time she has intercourse, because not all girls have thick hymens, and some are born with no hymen at all.
This information can literally save lives. I understand that many of us will not be able to share material like this, even if we want to. But the only way to educate people regarding this issue is, it should go to the newsfeeds of as many people as possible.

So please consider sharing. If you can't share, please like, leave a comment or forward it to your friends. I had to make content like this visible, to increase its reach, to educate people and to have impact on their lives.
